Massive cuts in US intelligence agencies may negatively affect the collection of information about threats to the country in the near future. This was reported by the Washington Post on February 7, citing current and former intelligence officials.

It is noted that departments remain without young employees, while layoffs prevent them from hiring new employees.

"We're shooting ourselves in the head, not in the foot. We are paying with our future," one of the former intelligence officers told the newspaper.

Another of the newspaper's sources said that it had become almost impossible to work, and staff morale was "below the skirting board."

Earlier, on March 6, the New York Times reported on the beginning of mass layoffs of US civil servants. According to the newspaper, the cuts affected employees hired over the past two years.
