Israel has launched the most devastating demolition operation in Palestinian refugee camps in the West Bank since 1967. This was announced on Friday, March 7, by Philippe Lazzarini, head of the United Nations Relief Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).

"Today, Israeli security forces began demolishing more than 16 buildings in the Nur Shams camp in Tulkarm, in the northern West Bank <...> This operation is the longest and most destructive since the second intifada," Lazzarini wrote on his Facebook page.

According to him, last time similar actions could lead to the largest displacement of Palestinians in the West Bank since the 1967 war.

On February 2, Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abu al-Gheit, during a meeting with the UN Interim Special Coordinator for the Middle East peace process Sigrid Kaag, stated that Israel's goal is to create uninhabitable conditions in the Gaza Strip. He noted that the forced displacement of Palestinians is an existential threat to the Palestinian cause.
