The Gonets Satellite System company, part of the Roscosmos State Corporation, has introduced a new satellite modem for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The corresponding statement was made on March 6 by the press service of the Group of Companies in the Telegtam channel.

"Today, the modem is the smallest of the domestic satellite subscriber devices. The use of satellite channels on UAVs opens up fundamentally new opportunities — the control area is expanding, hybrid control is becoming possible," commented Andrey Manoilo, CEO of the company.

It is also reported that the new development can also be used to "transfer the payload installed on the drone." Therefore, such a modem has great economic potential for a number of industries.

In the summer of 2024, Roscosmos announced that the technology was being used in Russia for the first time href="https://iz.ru/1728766/2024-07-17/v-rossii-vpervye-naladili-upravlenie-bpla-cherez-kosmicheskii-sputnik"> drone control via a space satellite. The experiment was conducted by the Gonets Satellite System and the Geoscan company. The drone's location and telemetry data were successfully transmitted to the data processing center, and a command was sent via satellite to forcibly return the unmanned aircraft to the launch site.
