Customers who have installed a self-lock should keep in mind that inactive credit cards may be blocked, while existing credit products will remain available. This is important for those who seek to control their financial obligations and avoid unexpected changes in service, Evgeny Zlenko, an expert at the Polylogue Group, told Izvestia on March 5.

As the specialist explained, if the customer has installed a self-lock, the bank has the right to cancel the inactive credit cards. This is due to the fact that activating such a card is equivalent to receiving new borrowed funds, which contradicts the established prohibition. However, this rule does not apply to credit cards that have already been activated — they continue to be valid, as they are considered part of the customer's current obligations.

"Self-locking does not affect credit products that have already been issued. If the card is activated, the customer can continue to use it within the established limit. But if the card has not been activated, the bank may close it to avoid violating the ban," Zlenko concluded.

Earlier, on February 9, lawyer, head of the Law Enforcement Center at In Moscow and the Moscow region, Alexander Khaminsky told Izvestia about the details of the self-ban on issuing loans. He noted that when making installments, it is necessary to pay attention to which documents are signed. From a legal point of view, the installment service is a loan on some marketplaces, while on others it is not. In other words, it all depends on the specific conditions of the site, and self-locking on loans may not work everywhere.
