The State Duma proposed limiting access to carsharing to drivers under 21 years of age

The State Duma proposed restricting access to carsharing services to people under the age of 21, as well as installing alcohol pumps and a speed limit of up to 120 km/h in carsharing vehicles. With such an initiative, the head of the State Duma Committee on Social Policy, Yaroslav Nilov (LDPR), addressed a letter to the Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation, Roman Starovoit, reports RT on March 4th.
According to Nilov, it is also necessary to introduce a mandatory remote engine lock function for carsharing vehicles (for example, during a police chase after an intruder), as well as "eliminate parking privileges" for such vehicles. This will reduce accidents and the risk of tragic outcomes, while maintaining the format and benefits of car rental.
Speaking with the initiative, the deputy drew attention to the accident, the incident in late February in Nizhny Novgorod, in which an 18-year-old driver in a rented car lost control and crashed into a public transport stop at high speed.
On February 27, it was reported that in 2024, the most sought-after carsharing vehicles in the Economy category became Volkswagen Polo, Kia Rio X-Line and Jetta VS5. In the Comfort category over the same period, Haval Jolion, Geely Coolray and Chery Tiggo 4 are the leaders, while in Business and Premium, Russian drivers most often chose Toyota Camry, Exeed RX and Geely Monjaro.
