The film "The Prophet. The Story of Alexander Pushkin" starring Yura Borisov as the great poet topped the Russian box office for the third time. Last weekend, the release earned 167 million rubles, its total box office exceeded one billion. He consistently holds leadership positions in the domestic box office and the action detective "Red Silk" with Milos Bikovic. In the second weekend, he earned another 121 million rubles and approached the 400 million mark in total fees. Stephen King's "Monkey" closes the top 3, earning 74 million at the start. "Izvestia" — about the results of the weekend in the cinema.

"Red Silk" stays at the top of the box office

On the night of March 3, Moscow time, the 97th Academy Awards ceremony was held in Los Angeles, which the Russian audience watched with special anticipation this year. The fact is that Sean Baker's Anora participated in the race, which eventually became the winner of the competition, with our Yura Borisov, who charmed his Western colleagues. Robert Downey Jr., for example, praised Yura from the stage in front of all of Hollywood.

Against this background, "The Prophet" was released in Russia on February 14. The Story of Alexander Pushkin", where the poet is played by Yura Borisov. The excitement surrounding his Oscar nomination undoubtedly played into the hands of the project. Visitors to Russian cinemas voted for the actor in rubles — the musical biopic about Pushkin holds the lead in the box office for the third week in a row, despite mixed reviews from viewers. According to the EAIS, last weekend the film recorded another 167 million rubles and showed the largest average number of viewers per session — 21 people.

Is, of course, not only about Borisov. Another film with his participation, "Summer will End", started in the Russian box office now only from the eighth place, earning about 17 million rubles. There, the actor plays a guy with a criminal record who can't start a new life after serving time. He steals the gold and goes on the run. The choice of this picture was given to 33 thousand viewers over the weekend, while 352 thousand were given to The Prophet. But intellectuals don't miss "Summer will End": critics declared it the most important premiere of the season.

— "The Prophet" is a large—scale and beautiful release, which was marked by a powerful marketing campaign. The hype around Oscar and Yura Borisov continues to boost his success. Thanks to this, the sundress is huge, and because of the heterogeneity of opinions, interest in the film is only increasing - everyone wants to make their own," Olga Zinyakova, president of the KARO cinema chain, told Izvestia.

The competition at the box office for "The Prophet" is the action-packed detective story "Red Silk", which also consistently does not lose ground in the rating. In the second weekend, the Russian-Chinese action recorded another 121 million rubles, bringing the total fees to around 400 million. The film, by the way, also featured a stellar cast.: Milos Bikovic, Gosha Kutsenko, Gleb Kalyuzhny, Elena Podkaminskaya, Zheng Hanyi, Irina Alferova, Yaroslav Mogilnikov. The action takes place in the late 1920s, a significant part of it is on a train that transports secret documents across Russia.

— The Russian audience has an interest in such projects. Similar costumed detectives earned quite well here. For example, "Murder on the Orient Express" collected about 900 million rubles, "Death on the Nile" — more than 600 million, and "Get knives" — about 400 million. In the near future, we will not see Russian projects in this niche that are comparable in marketing and scope," Olga Zinyakova noted.

Stephen King's "Monkey" started in third place at the box office

The expert added that the fees will increase next weekend. In the meantime, strong competitors in the form of "Red Silk" and "Prophet" do not leave any chances for other new products, as the figures show. The comedy horror "Monkey" based on Stephen King with the star of "Divergent" and "White Lotus" Theo James started only from the third line of the national box office.

The film about an old toy monkey killing people earned 74 million rubles. Another debutant— the domestic "North Pole" with Andrey Merzlikin and Evgeny Mironov, lagged slightly behind, bringing 62 million at the start. "Manyunya: Ba's Birthday" went down from the third to the fifth step (39.8 million). Below are "Captain Hook" (21.4 million) and "Catherine the Great" (17.7 million). The total fees of the latter are only about 70 million since the release two weeks ago.

The Turkish melodrama "Leave it to the Wind" with the star "Knock on my Door" Hande Ercel and Barysh Arduch, who personally presented the film in Moscow, closes the top 10. It has been in the Russian box office for a month, the total fees for this period amounted to 225 million rubles.

New items are likely to be shifted next weekend. The fairy tale "The Frog Princess", the biopic about the Soviet figure skater, three-time Olympic champion "Rodnina", the fantasy "Darling, I won't call you Back" with Nikita Efremov about where the soul goes after death, and the comedy about groundhog Day "One Good Day" will be released. The upcoming weekend will be on March 8th. Perhaps the holiday weekend will have a positive impact on cinema attendance, which has decreased from 2.1 million to 1.5 million visitors over the past few weeks.
