Trump's adviser expressed doubt about Zelensky's willingness to negotiate

The United States doubts the president's willingness Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky to negotiate a peaceful settlement of the conflict. Mike Waltz, assistant to the American president for National Security, said this on March 2.

"It was unclear to us that the president was ready to negotiate and act in good faith in order to end the conflict," he said in an interview with the TV channel CNN.

Waltz noted that the United States administration cannot get the Ukrainian side to understand what concessions it is ready for a peaceful settlement of the conflict.

"We cannot get any specifics from the Ukrainians, but it is obvious that there will be certain territorial concessions," said the assistant to the US leader.

In addition, it is the European countries that should be responsible for future security guarantees for Ukraine, he stressed.

"It is necessary that the Europeans lead in providing future security guarantees as part of Europe's contribution to its own defense," Waltz said.

He also called it an obvious fact that the United States does not see Ukraine as a member of NATO.

"The team of [US Secretary of State Marco] Rubio met with the Russians at the working level (on the issue. — Ed.) expansion of the embassies' activities. <..."If we intend to move forward in negotiations, then our embassies must be operational," added the assistant to the American president for National Security.

Waltz pointed out that the parties are also discussing issues of a peaceful settlement in Ukraine.
