The scandalous meeting between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky took place at the White House. Initially, Kiev and Washington were on the verge of concluding a deal on Ukrainian resources, but then there was a gap between the two sides on the air. What consequences this may have for Kiev is described in the Izvestia article.

Diplomatic disaster

"The public has never seen such a scene in the Oval Office before. Usually at such performances, the two world leaders smile at the cameras and shake hands for the sake of the journalists. Tough negotiations tend to happen away from the cameras. But the smoldering tension between the two presidents exploded in front of the eyes of the whole world," Time described what was happening.

The American TV channel CNN agrees with this assessment: "Never before has an American president given such a scolding to his guest as Trump gave Zelensky."

The British edition of The Daily Telegraph is confident that Kiev will face difficult times next.

"This is far beyond the worst-case scenario for Ukraine... a diplomatic disaster. There is no other description for this. Of all the possible outcomes of today's meeting, only one did not occur to anyone — how Vladimir Zelensky and Donald Trump are yelling at each other," the publication says.

During the meeting, Zelensky sparred with Donald Trump and US Vice President Jay Dee Vance. Trump noted that Zelensky was playing with World War III, and also accused him of ingratitude, recalling the amount of financial assistance provided. The head of the United States mimicked Zelensky during the conversation, who in response tried to oppose and raised his voice and even cursed rudely at Dee Vance.

Termination of supplies

The Ukrainian media have a similar point of view. "The country.ua" I'm sure that the consequences for Ukraine can be severe.

"Zelensky quarreled with Ukraine's largest partner and made a huge gift to Vladimir Putin, whose main task is to deprive Kiev of American aid, which will dramatically weaken the position of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the battlefield and, consequently, dramatically worsen Ukraine's negotiating positions," the newspaper notes.

The authors of the publication are confident that this is the most dangerous scenario for Kiev, in which military operations will continue, but without the support of the United States.

The head of European diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, amid a skirmish between the Ukrainian and American leaders in the White House, said that Europe intends to strengthen military assistance to Kiev to continue the fighting.

"Ukraine is Europe! We support Ukraine. We will strengthen our support for Ukraine so that it can continue to fight back against the aggressor," she wrote on the X network.By the way, she had previously taken the initiative to increase military assistance to Ukraine in 2025, but the EU countries could not unanimously approve this plan at a meeting of the foreign ministers.

Obviously, the European Union will try to support Ukraine's struggle, but it will not have the strength to do so even in the medium term.

Meanwhile, the US administration has already announced a reduction in some support programs for Ukraine. According to The Washington Post, "Washington is considering the possibility of ending all military assistance to Kiev."

What do the experts think

According to US political scientist Garland Nixon, Zelensky has demonstrated that he is an incompetent, incapable leader.

— He is an unscrupulous actor. He humiliated himself, his country, and his sponsors in Europe. And now it's time for the Europeans and Ukrainians to understand their situation and work with Trump," he said in an interview with Izvestia.

The expert added that in this way Zelensky demonstrated an attitude "both to himself and to his European sponsors."

"The results of today's phantasmagoria in the White House are that a peaceful settlement, no matter how different participants in the process imagine it, has been disrupted. To put it mildly, it is postponed. The next stage is a military one, possibly with a transition to a tougher degree of confrontation,"— political scientist Fyodor Lukyanov predicts further developments in his Telegram channel "Russia in Global Politics".

Maxim Suchkov, director of the MGIMO Institute of International Relations at the Russian Foreign Ministry, notes in the Post-America Telegram channel that if Russia was a "spoiler" for the Democrats, then Ukraine is becoming one for Trump. According to the expert, the American leader does not like that Zelensky's stubbornness ruins his dreams of a deal.

"You shouldn't flatter yourself. The United States holds the keys to ending the conflict: they can turn off Starlink tomorrow, which is linked to the entire control system of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and everything will be over for them in a week. But the United States does not do this because it feels that it can squeeze more out of the situation," the American expert is sure.

The expert believes that Vladimir Zelensky's visit gives Moscow an additional boost.

"We need to use it properly. Well, you can never relax with Trump at all — we have seen why," the expert summed up.

Elena Panina, Director of the Institute of International Political and Economic Strategies — RUSSTRAT, believes that the conflict is based on this has not been exhausted and Kiev "has enough money from Europe and from the previously listed tranches" to continue the war for at least another six months.

"It may well be that this was the plan of Kiev and the globalists: the war continues, Trump shows himself intractable, and Ukraine, led by Zelensky, looks proud and unbending. The plan is based on the expectation that in the next few months something will change in the direction the globalists need," the political scientist believes.

She stressed that the deal has not been canceled yet.

"It's just not signed. After all, Trump added that Zelensky "can return when he is ready for a dialogue about peace." Most likely, the US pressure on Kiev will increase now — this is required by the logic of circumstances. The whole question is what tools it will be implemented with," the expert believes.

According to the expert, it is unlikely that we are talking about sanctions against the leadership of Ukraine or the shutdown of Starlink.

"That would be too obvious. What does this mean for Russia? The same as before. Our relations with the United States are not limited to Ukraine alone, we are interested in a global security architecture that takes into account our national interests," the analyst concluded.
