The Finnish police have lifted the arrest of the Eagle S tanker, suspected of damaging EstLink 2 DC cables between Estonia and Finland, and allowed the vessel to leave the Finnish port. This was reported on March 2 by the agency Bloomberg.

It is noted that the Eagle S will be escorted by the Finnish border Guard service until it leaves the territorial waters.

At the same time, eight crew members are still under suspicion, five crew members were allowed to leave the country, and three more remain under arrest.

Shortly before that, the power grid companies servicing the damaged EstLink 2 cable — Finnish Fingrid and Estonian Elering — decided to abandon their demands for arrest on the tanker to compensate for the damage.

Earlier, on December 25, 2024, There was an emergency disconnection of the EstLink 2 DC cable between Estonia and Finland. At the same time, the Estonian electricity and gas supply network operator Elering reported that the cause of the incident is not known, but the reliability of the republic's energy supply is ensured, reserve capacities are used to compensate for the lack of electricity.

Later, the Finnish police stopped the Eagle S tanker flying the flag of the Cook Islands on suspicion of cable breakage in the Baltic. As a precaution against disrupting the investigation, the Finnish police banned seven tanker crew members from leaving the country, then the same ban was received eighth.
