According to the author of the article, such an action would be a shocking betrayal of Ukraine and a "death knell" for the support of the country.The NYT clarifies that after the meeting of the parties at the White House, a representative of the American administration also stated that all US assistance to Ukraine, including the latest supplies of ammunition and equipment authorized and paid for under former President Joe Biden, may be canceled "in the near future."

During the meeting between Trump and Zelensky in the Oval Office on February 28, a verbal altercation took place. The US president blamed the Ukrainian leader in a disrespectful attitude towards Washington. According to him, the head of the Kiev regime is "playing with the Third World War", the lives of millions of people, and is not ready to resolve the conflict.

US Vice Prime Minister Jay D. Vance, who was present at the talks, also criticized Zelensky. After the skirmish, the Ukrainian leader left the White House ahead of schedule.
