Former French President Hollande urged not to consider Trump an ally of Paris

France can no longer count the president USA Donald Trump is his ally. This was stated on February 28 by ex-President of the Fifth Republic Francois Hollande in interview to Le Monde newspaper.
In his opinion, Trump's second term has very little in common with the American leader's first term.
"He (Trump. — Ed.) is no longer our ally. The American people remain friendly to us, but Trump is no longer our ally. His administration will demonstrate that it listens more to [Russian President Vladimir] Putin and North Korea, rather than the Europeans and representatives of [other] Western countries," Hollande said.
According to the politician, Europe should definitely introduce retaliatory measures if the United States increases customs duties against the European Union (EU) by 25%.
"Donald Trump is only interested in money. You can observe this in relation to Of Ukraine. He insistently and brazenly demands that Ukraine no longer be defended, demands rare earth metals from it," Hollande added.
Earlier, on February 28, French President Emmanuel Macron called on Europe href="https://iz.ru/1846542/2025-02-28/makron-prizval-evropu-otkazatsia-ot-schastlivoi-vassalizatcii-v-otnosheniiakh-s-ssha " target="_blank">opt out of "vassalization" in US relations and become more united. In his opinion, European countries need to rediscover their "taste for risk, ambition and strength" in response to the unpredictability of the current administration in Washington.
On February 27, the head of European diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, stated that the US president in his statements on Ukraine allegedly repeats "Russian narratives". She also complained that Trump is much friendlier towards Russia than towards Europe.
