A criminal case has been opened after a fatal road accident in Nizhny Novgorod.


A criminal case has been opened in Nizhny Novgorod over an accident involving a carsharing car that drove into a bus shelter with people, causing two deaths and five injuries. This was announced on February 27 by a source of Izvestia.
It is specified that an 18-year—old boy was driving a carsharing car, who for unknown reasons lost control, flew into the oncoming lane and crashed into a stop at a speed of 150 km/ h, and then into a street lamp.
According to journalist Oleg Murashev, who was at the scene, as a result of a carsharing collision at a bus stop, two elderly women who were waiting for their bus were thrown onto the sidewalk and died on the spot from their injuries.
"An 18-year-old boy was driving the car, he got his driver's license in mid-November 2024. At the time of the accident, the car was traveling at a speed of about 150 km/h. A criminal case was opened into the incident under Part 5 of Article 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Violation of traffic rules and operation of vehicles, which negligently resulted in the death of two or more persons")," the source said, adding that five victims who were in the car were taken to the hospital.
The prosecutor's office of the Nizhny Novgorod region clarified that the department's staff had taken control of the incident case.

It was reported that the driver lost control and the car skidded, after which it crashed into a pillar at high speed. On impact, the body split into two parts. The driver and passenger were in the cabin at the time of the accident. Both survived, but their current condition is unknown.
