Europe expressed willingness to participate in guaranteeing peace in Ukraine


The head of the European Council, Antonio Costa, in an invitation to the leaders of the European Union (EU) to a special summit on March 6, said that Europe is ready to participate in the guarantees of peace at Ukraine.
At the summit, EU leaders will exchange views on how to provide further support to Ukraine and on the principles to be followed in the future.
"The EU and its member states are ready to assume greater responsibility for Europe's security," reads a statement posted on on the EU website.
The European contribution to security guarantees is necessary to ensure lasting peace in Ukraine, Costa wrote in the invitation.
Earlier, on February 23, Costa announced that the EU will hold an emergency summit in Brussels on the conflict in Ukraine and European defense on March 6.
