Russia believes that the Arctic should become a conflict-free zone. He stated this in an interview on February 26 TASS Russian Ambassador to Ottawa Oleg Stepanov.

"The Arctic represents collective opportunities for all regional powers to jointly explore, develop and preserve this unique area as a conflict—free zone," the diplomat said.

According to the Ambassador, the challenges for Russia in the Arctic remain unchanged. He also added that the Russian side is taking the necessary measures to ensure the interests of the Russian Federation and sovereignty in high latitudes.
