Issuance of car loans in Russia fell by 42.7% in a month

By the end of January 2025, the number of car loans issued for new and used cars amounted to 59.6 thousand units, which is 42.7% less than in the previous month. So, in December last year, this figure reached 104.1 thousand units. This was announced on February 26 by the National Bureau of Credit Histories (NBKI).

At the same time, compared to January last year, the number of car loans issued in the first month of 2025 decreased by 39.7% (in January 2024 there were 98.7 thousand units). According to Alexey Volkov, NBKI's marketing director, the growth of recycling fees and market rates were among the factors contributing to the decline in car loans.

In addition, the volume of car loans issued decreased in January compared to December, this figure fell by 45.8% and amounted to 73.4 billion rubles. Compared to the same period last year, it decreased by 48.6%.

Most of the car loans among the regions of the Russian Federation were issued in Moscow, the Moscow Region, the Republic of Tatarstan, the Krasnodar Territory and the Rostov Region. The most serious dynamics of the reduction in the issuance of car loans compared to the previous month was recorded in the Tyumen Region (excluding Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug and Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District), Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug, as well as in the Volgograd, Orenburg and Ulyanovsk regions. In Moscow and St. Petersburg, the number of car loans issued per month decreased by 37.8% and 42%, respectively.

Earlier in the day, the Moskvich automobile plant announced that an increase in car prices was the result of indexing, which is dictated by the market situation.
