The risk of a direct clash between the nuclear powers is high and continues to grow. This was announced on Wednesday, February 26, by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin at the conference on disarmament in Geneva.

"There is an increase in tension and conflict almost everywhere," he said.

In addition, the diplomat noted that by the 80th anniversary of the United Nations (UN), the world has reached the conditions of a severe crisis in the field of international security. According to Vershinin, the struggle for a model of world order has led to this state of affairs in the world.

The diplomat also pointed out that the players aimed at global domination grossly violate the principles of equal security and do not recognize the interests of other countries. Such states violate agreements and seek to gain military superiority over others, Vershinin stressed.

Earlier, on February 20, the president USA Donald Trump confirmed his intention to negotiate with Russia and China on reducing the number of nuclear warheads. At the same time, the American leader stressed that the international community should not allow the use of nuclear weapons.

Before that, on February 6, Trump's special envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg said that the chances that Kiev will be able to regain nuclear weapons are "small" or even "equal to zero". He clarified that, in other words, we need to be honest in saying bluntly that this is not going to happen.
