European countries, led by Britain and France, want to deploy their military contingent near critical infrastructure facilities Of Ukraine. This was reported on February 25 by the magazine The Economist with reference to an unnamed Western official.

It is indicated that the deployment of a limited force of several tens of thousands of people is currently being discussed.

"They (the European military. They will be deployed not on the front line in the east, but in Ukrainian cities, ports, and nuclear power plants," the article says.

At the same time, as noted in the publication, Europe will face a number of problems if a military contingent is sent. In particular, it will be difficult for many EU countries to prepare even one combat-ready brigade for the mission, while sending troops will leave large gaps in the continent's security system and force NATO to adjust its military plans.

"And most importantly, the Europeans recognize that any deployment will require significant American support," the Economist noted.

Earlier, on February 23, the American newspaper The Wall Street Journal reported that the UK and France href="https://iz.ru/1843653/2025-02-23/smi-soobshchili-o-poiske-stranami-es-podderzhki-trampa-v-otpravke-voisk-na-ukrainu " target="_blank">a plan is being developed to deploy 30 thousand military in Ukraine. At the same time, the implementation of their plan depends on whether the president can be persuaded USA Donald Trump to promise to support the European contingent in the event of an escalation of the conflict.

French President Emmanuel Macron said on February 20 that Paris is now href="https://iz.ru/1842533/2025-02-20/makron-iskliuchil-otpravku-frantcuzskikh-voisk-v-zonu-soprikosnoveniia-na-ukraine"> does not consider sending its military contingent to participate in the Ukrainian conflict. Nevertheless, the republic does not rule out sending peacekeepers to the country after the end of the conflict.

Prior to that, on February 18, German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbok stated that the German military will not be sent to Ukraine during the "hot phase" of the crisis. The Lithuanian President's foreign policy adviser Asta Skaisgirite noted that Vilnius would like to help Kiev with its instructors, but now Lithuania does not talk about sending military contingents. The politician pointed out that European countries need to think about the safety of their soldiers.
