A group of members of the European Parliament (EP) from several countries was outraged by the situation with the pressure organized by the United States against Cuba, which has reached the point of financial blockade. This is stated in the appeal of MEPs to the European Commission (EC).

"Cuba is subjected to an economic, commercial and financial blockade unilaterally imposed by the United States, the application of which is aggravated by its extraterritorial scope and the adoption of other measures, such as the inclusion of Cuba in the U.S. list of so-called "countries sponsors of terrorism," - quotes the message Lenta.Ru.

MEPs note that the embargo imposed against Cuba has had a significant impact on the country's economy, which has led to serious consequences for the living conditions of its population.

"Companies, including those from EU member states, are reducing or ending cooperation with Cuba in the face of threats and coercive measures from the US. Cuba's inclusion on the US list of so-called 'terrorism-sponsoring countries' has forced several financial institutions to suspend their operations with the country, including transfers for the purchase of food, medicine, fuel and other essential goods," the text reads.

The parliamentarians recalled that the UN General Assembly has called 32 times for an end to the blockade. In this regard, they asked what actions the EU intends to take to remove Cuba from the list of "countries sponsoring terrorism."

Earlier, on January 21, US President Donald Trump returned Cuba to the list of countries - sponsors of terrorism, reports NSN. The removal from the list under former President Joe Biden was part of a deal in which Cuba was to release 553 political prisoners. Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez called Trump's decision to put Havana back on the list a disregard for the truth on his X social media page (formerly Twitter).

On the same day, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the US decision to re-list Cuba as a state sponsor of terrorism was groundless, RT reported.
