The restoration of the 1972 GAZ-51P car has been completed in the Moscow Museum of Transport. This was reported by Deputy Mayor for Transport and Industry Maxim Liksutov on February 23.

He emphasized that this car is the only copy of such a tractor-trailer, RT writes. A distinctive feature of the tractor-trailer is the presence of a special coupling with a semi-trailer - a fifth wheel, or "saddle", according to the Moscow city news agency .

The truck is designed to tow semi-trailers. In addition, it can form a fifth wheel road train. In freight transportation, this is applied quite widely.

In the postwar period, the USSR was restoring the economy and increasing freight transportation. Due to the increase in their number, the country formed a shortage of trucks. In 1946, the Gorky Automobile Plant, among others, began to develop and produce a new extensive family of trucks GAZ-51. On its basis in 1956, a tractor GAZ-51P was created, capable of towing a semi-trailer weighing up to 6 tons. The car was equipped with a hydraulic vacuum brake booster, which significantly facilitated the management, notes the website kp.ru.

Liksutov added that Moscow continues the program of restoration of historical equipment and preservation of transport heritage.

On February 11, the Museum of Transport of Moscow told about the restoration of antique cars. Most often cars are obtained from private collections and other museums, and if the samples have not survived - restored according to archival drawings, reports 360.ru.

February 9, Maxim Liksutov said that in Moscow by the end of 2025 will repair and restore 25 exhibits in the Museum of Transport. It is planned to carry out repair and restoration work on 42 exhibits, of which to complete the restoration of 25 exhibits and 12 artifacts

At the end of January, the Museum of Transport of Moscow reported that more than 1 million people visited the institution over five years. The museum would have been opened on January 28, 2020. It features 1,515 artifacts and 237 pieces of equipment, RIAMO specifies.
