A sign of memory: an exhibition about the Strategic Defense Forces opened at the Central Museum of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation
The Central Museum of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation opened a new exhibition on the history of the Russian army and special military operation. The room dedicated to the Special Military Operation was particularly emotional - the tragedy of Donbass, the crimes of Ukrainian militants, the shrapnel of Western shells that killed Russian children - these testimonies will not leave anyone indifferent. Many things were given to the museum by the participants of the SWO, they also helped to make the exposition extremely realistic.
"Participants of military operations helped"
Pictures and exhibits are placed in two halls of the museum. The first one tells about the modern history of the RF Armed Forces from 1991 to 2025. The second is dedicated to the special military operation. Here the prehistory is told, what were the reasons for the beginning of the SWO, there are numerous evidences of how the Ukrainian military killed civilians of Donbass. Among the exhibits are personal belongings of the participants of the operation, uniforms, weapons and equipment, trophies taken by the Russian troops - military equipment of the AFU, chevrons and patches, damaged weapons of NATO countries.
All the drawings and paintings exhibited in the hall were created right on the line of contact. They depict real people - fighters and commanders who participated in the battles.
- The items for the hall were collected during expeditions of the museum staff to the combat zone. There were seven of them," said Sergei Razin, head of the research and exhibition department of the Central Museum of the Armed Forces. - In addition, volunteers were a great help. And, of course, the participants of military operations themselves, who have been cooperating with the museum for a long time. They considered it possible to give their personal belongings that were with them in the combat zone.
Separately, the exposition demonstrates the shells that come to the cities of Donbass. And among them are deadly exhibits that killed children. The captions under the mangled, jagged pieces of metal are laconic: "Nikita, 8 years old, killed on March 11, 2023, 155-mm, M777". M777 is the name of a howitzer supplied to Ukrainian formations by the United States. "Lera, 14 years old, killed on February 17, 2024, HIMARS MLRS" is an American multiple rocket launcher.
- We took a big role in showing what a pro-fascist regime is in Ukraine, as well as the reasons for launching a special military operation. Here are Ukrainian textbooks for 9th-11th grades. They tell that Russia has always been hostile to Ukraine and oppressed it. In other words, hatred towards our country is brought up from adolescence, - said Sergei Razin.
Among the exhibits there are many personal belongings of the heroes of the SVO. For example, the red backpack of a Marine commander with the call sign Struna. His video on the front line with this backpack behind his back became one of the symbols of the battles for Mariupol in 2022.
- The backpack itself is a bright spot, it is clearly visible on the video," Hero of Russia Vladislav Golovin, known throughout the country by his call sign Struna, told Izvestia. - Its color coincides with the Victory Banner. I wanted to give it to the singer Yuta, but she was very reverent about the thing. She refused to take it and offered to give it to the museum. And here it is.
"The hardest thing is to see wounded young guys."
The opening of the exposition was attended by the heroes of the special military operation. Sergeant Igor Poyarkov of the Airborne Troops worked as a captain of a pleasure boat in Yalta before the Special Military Operation. He gave rides to tourists and divers. After entering the service fought in Kherson, in the Zaporozhye region, in Sentinel Yar. Recalls that the heaviest battles were near Kremenna. He worked on the ATGM, held tank dangerous directions, dismantled fortifications. On his account - a communication center, AGS calculation, other important targets. For this he was awarded the Order of Courage.
Lieutenant of motorized rifle troops Maxim Lebedev got to the operation on mobilization. He was drafted as an ordinary soldier, but rose to the rank of officer. In one of the battles, when the company commander was wounded, he took command. The attacking militants suffered losses and withdrew. For that battle Maxim was awarded the Order of Courage.
Junior sergeant Valentina Janushauskene after the announcement of partial mobilization decided to sign a contract. She serves as a senior nurse on the front line. Over the years, several thousand wounded have passed through her hands. "The hardest thing is to see young guys wounded. My son is 20 years old. Service is going on, help is being rendered, and we believe in the best," she says.
The glorious history of the army and navy
The exposition devoted to the Russian army includes five sections by types and branches of troops: Ground Forces, Air and Space Forces, Navy, Strategic Missile Forces, Airborne Troops. Here are samples of uniforms, weapons and equipment, equipment.
The exposition tells about the most important events of the last decades. Among them are counter-terrorist operations in the North Caucasus, the march on Pristina, forcing Georgia to peace, Russia's military operation in Syria.
Some exhibits are being shown for the first time. In particular, personal belongings of the first and only Marshal of the Russian Federation Igor Sergeev, as well as servicemen who defended the national interests of Russia during the past military conflicts.
The exposition presented at the Central Museum of the Armed Forces is not the first. Last year in Moscow there was an exhibition of trophy equipment captured by Russian troops in the special operation zone. More than 30 samples of both Soviet and Western production were presented there.
