Netanyahu says he expects 'close cooperation' with future FRG government

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu congratulated German Christian Democratic Union (CDU/CSU) leader Friedrich Merz on his political bloc's victory in the Bundestag elections. He made the corresponding statement on the social network X (Former Twitter).
"Congratulations to Friedrich Merz and the CDU/CSU on their clear election victory today. Looking forward to working closely with your future government to further strengthen the partnership between our two countries," he wrote.
Earlier, Merz had reported his faction's victory in the election, according to the results.
German TV channel ZDF cited Exit poll data showing that 29% of voters voted in favor of the CDU/CSU. The party "Alternative for Germany" (AdG) for the first time in history took second place in the elections to the Bundestag with 20% of votes. At the same time, incumbent Chancellor Olaf Scholz's SPD gained only 16.5% of the electorate's support, which is its worst result ever.
