Moscow expects Tehran to provide its schesule of land redemption for the construction of the Resht-Astara railroad line within the framework of the North-South ITC project in the near future, Russian Ambassador to Iran Alexei Dedov told Izvestia.

"We are waiting for it (land buyout schedule. - Ed.) in the near future. Let's hope it will give certainty to the realization of this project. The Russian side, as well as the Iranian side, as I have the impression, are determined to see this project realized," the diplomat noted to Izvestia.

In 2023, Russia and Iran agreed within the framework of the North-South project to build a 160-kilometer section of the Resht-Astara road between Azerbaijan and Iran, which will provide seamless passage to Persian Gulf ports.

In December 2024, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Savelyev said that the Iranian side had committed to providing a schedule for the redemption of land on this section.
