Israel Defense Forces (IDF) planes struck south and east Lebanon at the funeral of former leader of Lebanese Shiite Hezbollah movement Hassan Nasrallah. The Lebanese NNA news agency reported on February 23.

"Israel carried out raids on several neighborhoods on the outskirts of Budaya in the Bekaa in eastern Lebanon and in al-Baysarieh in southern Lebanon," the media outlet points out.

In addition, IDF warplanes circled over Beirut at low altitude at the time.

"Israeli enemy planes continue to fly over the city of Beirut," the agency said.

Earlier in the day, the Associated Press (AP) reported that tens of thousands of people had gathered at a Beirut stadium to attend the funeral of the former Hezbollah leader nearly five months after he was killed in an Israeli airstrike. The funeral, attended by officials from across the region, including Iran, is believed to be the largest in Lebanon in 20 years.

Nasrallah was eliminated by Israel on September 27, 2024, at the organization's headquarters in Beirut. He was eliminated in the afternoon when IAF planes dropped bombs on Hezbollah's command center, which was deep underground.

In November, Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz announced the defeat of Hezbollah and called Nasrallah's elimination a major achievement. He said the state only needs to keep up pressure on the Shiite organization to reap the fruits of defeating it.
