The feeling of envy can have a positive psychological effect and contribute to achieving better results in life. This was stated by Taisia Potevskaya, Master of Psychology, practicing psychologist and teacher of the International Institute of Psychology Smart, in a conversation with "Gazeta.Ru".

"Envy should be looked at from the point of view of usefulness: if it promotes you, helps you achieve your goals, there is nothing wrong with such a feeling. Often successful businessmen even deliberately surround themselves with people with a large income, so that, being in such an environment, constantly be in tone," she said.

It is specified that the reason for the emergence of feelings of envy is a survival instinct. In ancient times, only the strongest could survive, so it was necessary to imitate the most successful people, for example, in hunting and gathering.

"It is important to note that envy has a beneficial effect only on those people who feel self-sufficient, value themselves and whose desire "higher, farther, stronger" is not the result of deep traumas and complexes," - said the master.

If a person is not self-confident and self-sufficient, envy can begin to negatively affect the personality or even lead to self-deprecating thoughts.

According to the expert, in most cases, such an attitude towards oneself is rooted deep in childhood. In this case, it is worth seeking help from a qualified psychologist and, together with the specialist, to understand your psychological state.

"It is also important to remember that we are usually jealous of what is in ourselves, we just either do not recognize it or suppress it. Therefore, do not forget about your own uniqueness. Each person is a whole cosmos, special and unique. You just need to look into it and see how many valuable things are inside you," - reminded Taisia Potevskaya.

Before that, on February 21, the psychologist explained the impact of co-dependence on partner's alcoholism. If a person has no purpose and meaning of his life, there is an inner emptiness, depression and dissatisfaction with himself. To dull this pain and fill the resulting void, a person begins to "fill" it with alcohol to unconsciously escape from reality, to get some pleasure.
