The German party Sarah Wagenknecht's Union for Reason and Justice (BSW) has called for a referendum on Germany's policy towards Ukraine and the continuation of arms supplies to Kiev. This was stated by the Chairman of the political association Sarah Wagenknecht in an interview with the Berliner Zeitung newspaper.

"€700 billion for an arms buildup, weapons for Ukraine and the deployment of the Bundeswehr military? We demand a nationwide poll on Germany's Ukraine policy," she said.

According to Wagenknecht, the poll should be held after the elections to the German Bundestag but before the election of the chancellor. In addition, Wagenknecht believes that the possible sending of the German military to Ukraine will be a heavy burden for Germany.

"If we send troops, we could become a direct participant in <conflict>. It's good that the US is negotiating with Russia, but they also want us to pay the costs and send troops. Citizens should be given the right to veto this law," the party chairwoman said.

Wagenknecht also noted that the BSW, like a large part of the population, opposes further arms deliveries to Ukraine worth billions of dollars and the deployment of German soldiers there.

US President Donald Trump on the same day pointed to the lack of mutual benefit from the $350 billion in aid to Ukraine, including accusing Zelensky of wanting to continue the conflict with Russia for the sake of his enrichment.

On February 18, the American leader pointed to the lack of accountability of money on the Ukrainian conflict. Trump said that he had long been concerned about where half of the funds that the United States had sent to Ukraine as support for the conflict were located.
