Slovakia condemns EU double standards in the issue of Russian gas transit

The European Commission (EC) and Slovakia disagree in their views on gas transit through Ukraine. This was stated by Slovak Economy Minister Denisa Sakova on 18 February.
She noted that Brussels held a series of talks on stopping gas transit through Ukraine and the impact of this decision on gas prices for households and industries.
"The European Commission has an excellent view that restoring gas transit through Ukraine can solve the problems (with gas shortages and rising costs in the EU - Ed.)," the minister said in a video message published on her Facebook page (owned by Meta, which is recognized as extremist and banned in Russia).
She noted that the European Union (EU), in turn, refers to the leaders' political agreement of 2022, which states that European countries intend to completely get rid of dependence on Russian energy resources by 2027.
Former Slovak Prime Minister Jan Czarnogurski said that if Ukraine cuts off Russian gas transit again after the conflict is resolved, Slovakia will stop supplies of the same gas going through Germany and other countries.
"Gazprom announced on January 1, 2025 that it would suspend Russian gas supplies to the EU via Ukraine. This route was used for 50% of Russian gas exports to Europe. Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fitzo said that this would have drastic consequences for the EU, but not for Russia.
