A new car should be operated with care during the first 5 thousand kilometers, as any mating parts of the mechanism need to be lapped and adjusted. However, some car owners forget about it and subject the engine, transmission, brake system and other units to increased loads, said the director of after-sales service "Autodom Altufievo" Roman Timashov, reports "Rossiyskaya Gazeta " on February 18.

"When running-in, the car should be handled with care, avoiding sudden starts, maneuvers and braking. The engine should not be left idling for a long time, as in this mode the oil supply to the lubrication system is relatively low, and the power unit may start to experience oil starvation," the specialist explained.

According to him, it is acceptable to leave a new car at idle speeds only when the engine warms up for no more than two or three minutes. In the optimal mode it is necessary to keep the engine running at 2-3 thousand rpm. In addition, the new engine is recommended to drive at a speed of 80 to 120 km / h, said the expert.

Also, as advised by the expert, until the end of the run-in period it is not recommended to accelerate and brake sharply, allow wheels slippage and overload the car with cargo or passengers.

Auto expert Igor Serebryakov said on February 7 that, according to a number of studies, due to the use of gasoline with a higher octane number (for example, Ai-98 instead of Ai-92), the increase in power can be about 7%, and fuel consumption can be reduced by about 6%. However, the use of fuel with a higher octane number than recommended by the manufacturer can cause serious damage to the engine, he warned.
