Peace in Ukraine must be accompanied by reliable security guarantees. The head of the European Commission (EC), Ursula von der Leyen, said this on February 17 following an emergency summit of European leaders in Paris.

"Today in Paris we confirmed that Ukraine deserves peace through strength. A peace that respects its independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, with strong security guarantees," she wrote on X (former Twitter).

The head of the European Commission also emphasized that Europe continues to bear the full share of military assistance to Kiev.

"At the same time, we need to strengthen defense in Europe," von der Leyen noted.

According to Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, the emergency EU summit in Paris did not take any decisions on Ukraine. He emphasized that "such meetings do not end with decisions." On this day, Tusk in a conversation with journalists before traveling to the emergency summit ruled out sending the Polish military to Ukraine. In addition, he promised that Warsaw would continue its organizational, humanitarian and military support for the Kiev regime.
