- Media pointed to the US desire to learn about possible security guarantees from the EU to Kiev

TheUSA has asked the countries of the European Union (EU) to clarify what security guarantees they are ready to give Kiev to end the Ukrainian conflict. This was reported by the Bloomberg news agency on 17 February, citing documents.
In addition, the American leader Donald Trump wants to know to what extent European countries are ready to send peacekeeping troops to the Eastern European country.
It is specified that Trump's special envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg will discuss these issues at meetings with European leaders in February.
Earlier, on February 14, the head of the Pentagon Pete Hegseth said that the United States does not plan to send troops to Ukraine to provide the Eastern European country with security guarantees. He emphasized that the inviolability of the borders of the eastern European country should not be ensured by NATO forces.
The Associated Press reported the next day that a group of political elites from Great Britain, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Poland, as well as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky (his term of office expires in May 2024) discussed the possible sending of troops to Ukraine. It was specified that first of all, the composition and role of the forces that might be sent depend on whether Moscow and Kiev can agree on the terms in the course of negotiations.
