Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fitzo has said that he does not understand what the participants in the emergency summit of the European Union (EU) countries in Paris are doing regarding the deployment of troops on the territory of Ukraine. Fitzo wrote about this on his Facebook page on February 17 (part of Meta, recognized as an extremist organization and banned in Russia).

Fitzo said that the EU has no authority to decide on the participation of foreign troops on the territory of another state.

"This is possible only on the basis of a decision taken in the relevant UN bodies or on the basis of a bilateral agreement between Ukraine and individual countries wishing to send troops to its territory. However, this is a topic that the EU has nothing to do with and on which it should not speak out," the prime minister wrote.

Fitzo also noted that Slovakia would not send armed forces to the territory of Ukraine.

"Ukraine will lose part of its territory, will not be in NATO, its territory will be controlled by foreign armies, and it will still be prevented from joining the EU, which Slovakia unconditionally agrees with," Fitzo said.

Earlier, on January 21, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that Ukraine was not yet ready to join the EU, and he was not ready for its accession. According to him, the EU does not have the money to accept Kiev. In addition, he urged Ukraine to first settle relations with Slovakia and Hungary.

Ukraine officially applied for EU membership on February 28, 2022.
