Used crossovers have become cheaper in Russia

In February 2025 on the Russian secondary market crossovers with mileage from private sellers were 10% cheaper than in the same month last year. The average price of SUVs (crossovers and SUVs) with mileage amounted to 3.02 million rubles, analysts of "Auto.ru Business" told "Izvestia".

The opposite situation is observed in the supply of crossovers with mileage at dealers. In February this year in car dealerships the price was 8% more (3.21 million rubles) than in February 2024.

"The decrease in the average cost of used cars at private sellers is due to the general aging of the car fleet. Dealers, on the other hand, are trying to collect better quality used cars in their warehouses, and the price of such cars is increasing, as the value of a car in good condition is increasing," explained Daniil Shkurygin, director of development and sales at Auto.ru Business.

Crossovers of Chinese brands cost on average 1.91 million rubles (-5% year-on-year). For models of European, Korean and Japanese brands the price remained unchanged compared to last year and amounted to 3.49 million rubles. Russian ones went up in price by 2%, up to Br817.8 thousand.

The top five most popular models included the classic Lada Niva (Br5.575 million), BMW X5 2018-2023 / X5 G05 (Br7.8 million), Chevrolet Niva (Br680 thousand), Volkswagen Tiguan 2016-2021 / Tiguan II (Br2.75 million), and Hyundai Creta first generation (Br1.76 million).

Analysts noted that despite the significant share of Chinese cars in the sales of new cars, their share in the segment of used cars is still low (about 6%). In this regard, among crossovers, the greatest demand is for models of Russian or those manufacturers that have left the market.

However, experts predict a general increase in prices in the car market

On February 15, it was reported that the average price of a new car in the SUV segment in Russia at the end of January 2025 was 3.2 million rubles. It turned out that the interest in this class of cars among Russians increased by 48.4% compared to January 2024.
