- Lavrov joked about Greenland in response to a US reporter about concessions on Ukraine

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov reminded a journalist of the US TV channel CNN about Denmark and Greenland when answering his question on the Ukrainian settlement. This happened on February 17 at a press conference following Lavrov's meeting with his Serbian counterpart Marko Djuric.
The US journalist asked whether it was possible that Russia would make territorial concessions to Ukraine to settle the conflict.
"You mean Denmark and Greenland?", Lavrov interjected.
The minister then asked the reporter to continue asking his question. In response, the Russian foreign minister suggested that the US representatives study history more carefully, because concessions to Ukraine by the Russian Federation had already been made when the USSR was formed.
Earlier, on February 15, the US president's special envoy for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, said that the USA expected Russia to make "concessions of territory" in the negotiations on the conflict resolution. Lavrov said on February 17 that compromises in this context are impossible: Russian people live on these lands, while Kiev commits atrocities in the territories under its control.
Before that, on January 26, Trump, answering questions from journalists in Las Vegas, expressed confidence that the United States would take possession of Greenland. The day before, Trump in a telephone conversation with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen insisted on the purchase of the island. The US leader was reportedly aggressive and conflicted in the conversation.
In December, Trump said that for the U.S. ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity. Before that, he expressed interest in buying the island from Denmark in 2019, but was turned down. This coming year, Trump was also indicated that the island is not for sale and will not be sold, but Denmark can cooperate more with the US.
