Permanent Representatives of the European Union (EU) member-states at a meeting on February 19 plan to agree on the 16th package of anti-Russian restrictions and new sanctions against Belarus. This follows on February 16 from the agenda of the meeting.

"Decision and regulation of the EU Council on restrictive measures in connection with Russia's actions destabilizing the situation in Ukraine (a set of sanctions of economic nature. - Ed.). Approval," reads the document, which is at the disposal of "RIA Novosti".

In addition, the EU postpresidents are expected to adopt a package of personal anti-Russian sanctions, as well as expand the restrictions imposed against Belarus amid the Ukrainian conflict.

In the agenda of the post-presidents, the 16th sanctions package has been moved from the category of those under discussion to the list of decisions that have already been agreed and only require approval and final technical agreement in the EU Council.

After the post-ambassadors agree on the sanctions, they will have to be approved by European ministers. These are likely to be the foreign ministers of the association's countries, whose meeting is scheduled for February 24.

The foreign ministries of the G7 countries adopted a communiqué on the topic of imposing new sanctions against Russia on February 15. Restrictions were linked to the negotiations on the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict. The foreign ministers said in the document that Russia should allegedly guarantee Ukraine 's long-term security.

On January 27, the head of EU diplomacy, Kaja Kallas, officially confirmed the agreement to extend the restrictions against Russia for six months. These restrictions will come into effect on February 22.

On 12 February, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov drew attention to the fact that European countries were preparing new sanctions amid the difficult situation in their own economies.
