Weidel stated the AdG's desire to establish good relations with Russia

The German political party Alternative for Germany (AdG) wants to establish very good relations with Russia and achieve the lifting of sanctions against it. Alice Weidel, co-chair of the political force and candidate for chancellor of Germany, said this in an interview with the German newspaper Bild on February 16.
"We want to have very good relations with our European neighbors. <...> But we also want to have very good relations with the major powers. Including Russia," Weidel said.
She noted that her party would like to put an end to the sanctions policy against Moscow, because all these restrictions hurt, first of all, Berlin. The politician recalled that two years ago Germany received cheap Russian natural gas through Nord Stream, but now the country has the highest energy prices in the world and the republic is no longer competitive.
Weidel pointed out that over the past three years, Berlin has spoken negatively of Moscow in words and used financial measures against it, as well as started supplying its weapons to Ukraine. The politician noted that those who do not see this as a problem are not familiar with world history.
Back on February 12, co-chair of the AdG shared that her mission is to restore good relations with former partners of the FRG, including Russia, because she wants to see Germany as a free, rich and prosperous country, which will be in good relations with both the West and the East, reports "Gazeta.Ru".
Russian Ambassador to Germany Sergei Nechaev in an interview with "Izvestia" on December 24, 2024 drew attention to the fact that relations between Moscow and Berlin were destroyed at the initiative of the latter, and this is deeply regrettable. The diplomat pointed out that Germany's unfriendly steps were necessary for it to gain great political weight in Europe.
Back in June, Russian President Vladimir Putin reminded that the Russian Federation has always treated Germany well, but Berlin is destroying relations with Moscow. As Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova noted at the time, there is no talk of normalizing these relations because of the efforts of the German authorities.
