Orban says EU lacks strategy after Russian energy rejection

The economic strategy of the European Union (EU) used to be based on energy resources from Russia, after the rejection of them it needs a new plan. This was stated by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban in an interview with American journalist Tucker Carlson on Friday, February 14.
"The success of the European Union has always been linked to the success of the German economy. Now they are suffering, and we are suffering too. The reason is very simple: there was a well-functioning structural model of the German economy and the European economy," he said. The interview was published on the journalist's page on the social network X (former Twitter).
The Hungarian prime minister emphasized that the EU voluntarily deprived itself of cheap energy resources in 2022, which led to its uncompetitiveness.
According to the politician, the European Union has no strategy and no plans for what the future of Europe's economy will be.
On February 12, Orban said that the EU should abandon sanctions against the Russian energy sector. He added that Brussels will still face the most important consequences of its failed energy policy.
On February 10, the head of the German party Sarah Wagenknecht's Union for Reason and Justice, Sarah Wagenknecht, said that anti-Russian sanctions are damaging the German economy. According to her, the rise in gas prices has provoked a rise in the price of products and a decrease in the competitiveness of German companies.
On January 30, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said that the refusal from Russian energy resources had cost Western countries dearly. Households and businesses have faced high electricity prices, leading to the closure of businesses and a drop in production.
