Trump again threatened to impose duties of 100% on BRICS

The United States may impose duties of 100% on goods from BRICS countries if the organization makes attempts that carry a threat to the dollar. This was stated by US President Donald Trump during a conversation with journalists at the White House on February 13.
"Trump said that duties will be imposed against the BRICS countries if they threaten the dollar," Bloomberg news agency specified.
In addition, the American leader noted that the U.S. is not concerned about the fact that amid the imposition of duties on the BRICS will increase the likelihood of other countries' trade with China.
Trump already said on January 30 that the U.S. would impose import duties of 100% against BRICS if the association tries to replace the dollar in global trade. Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov, in turn, noted that BRICS is not talking about creating a new currency, members of the organization are discussing the creation of joint investment platforms. Later, the Russian Foreign Ministry added that the cooperation of the BRICS countries is not directed against other states and is exclusively creative in nature.
BRICS is an interstate association of countries. On the eve of the summit in Kazan, held from October 22 to 24, 2024, 35 applications were received for joining the association. On January 1, 2025, Belarus, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Kazakhstan, Cuba, Malaysia, Thailand, Uganda and Uzbekistan joined as partners. Later it became known about the membership of Nigeria and Indonesia.
