Our skin has different functions and the most important one is the protective function, for which we have a lipid barrier. It protects our skin from environmental factors. Therefore, it is important to maintain the integrity of the lipid barrier. If it is broken, the skin faces dehydration, increased sensitivity and becomes irritable, Natalia Tkachenko, chemist-cosmetologist, founder of the Roz Mary beauty brand, told Izvestia on February 14.

"The most important components to restore the lipid barrier are ceramides, which can be incorporated into our lipid barrier from cosmetics, restore its structure and thus improve the skin's protective properties," the expert explained.

According to her, ceramides are the largest group of unique lipids. They are located in the horny layer of the skin on the very top layer of fibrous protein cells, tightly sealed in a lipid matrix. This structure of the top layer of the skin is the main obstacle to the penetration of external substances.

The expert noted that there are nine different types of ceramides and each has its own role. In general, "short" ceramides provide "stiffness" of the skin, and "long" - its elasticity. They are also regulators of cellular processes - for example, they can accelerate the reproduction and development of new cells, the death of damaged cells and even influence the synthesis of new collagen.

"In addition to the skin cream, competent cleansing and toning are also important for the skin. If the rest of the skin care steps suffer, the cream may not be able to fulfill its repair function. Gentle and gentle cleansing that does not damage the lipid barrier is important. It is necessary to wash carefully, do not aggressively rub the skin "to a squeak". This is fraught with the fact that you will experience a feeling of tightness," - summarized Tkachenko.

Earlier, February 1, dermatovenerologist, scientific director of the company MARTINEX Natalia Mikhailova told "Izvestia" that some pathological conditions of the gastrointestinal tract are often associated with dermatological manifestations. Gastritis and peptic ulcer disease, for example, can be accompanied by skin reactions such as rosacea, redness and vascular changes.
