Alice Weidel, co-chairwoman of the Alternative for Germany (AdG) party and a candidate for chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, has called it her mission to restore relations with former partners of the Federal Republic of Germany, including Russia. She made such a statement on February 12 at a press conference following a meeting with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban in Budapest.

"My and our noble task is to significantly improve and restore relations, first of all with Hungary, but also with our former partners represented by major powers - the United States, Russia and China. My and our noble task is to significantly improve and restore these relations," she said.

Weidel pointed out that, in her opinion, Germany has weakened in recent years due to failed economic decisions and incompetent leadership. Among the failed initiatives of the authorities, she pointed to the ongoing "green" policy, which was promoted by former German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

"I want a free, rich Germany, a prosperous Germany, a sovereign country that is in good relations with its neighbors, in good relations with the East and the West. This is our main task," the politician emphasized.

In addition, in her speech, Weidel also touched upon the topic of the Schengen Agreement and the European Single Market.

"I personally advocate - and this has always been the program of the AdG - to close our internal borders, the borders of Germany, and to do the same in Hungary to act as a bulwark against illegal migration," she said.

On December 16, 2024, the Bundestag revoked the Scholz government's credibility. In a vote on the request, less than a third of deputies voted in favor of it. Parliamentary elections will be held on February 23, 2025.

December 26, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko urged the FRG to restore relations with Russia to save its own economy.

Before that, on December 24, Russian Ambassador to Germany Sergei Nechaev said in an interview with Izvestia that the relations between Russia and Germany had been destroyed at the initiative of Berlin, which is deeply regrettable. It was beneficial for the development of Germany itself, giving it great political weight in Europe, the ambassador added.

Back in June, Russian President Vladimir Putin reminded that Russia has always treated Germany well, but Berlin is destroying relations with Moscow. As Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova noted at the time, there is no talk of normalizing these relations because of the efforts of the German authorities.
