The lunar sowing calendar was used by ancient farmers. It was compiled on the basis of long-term observations of the influence of the phases of the moon on the behavior of plants. And today it is followed by many dacha growers and gardeners.
According to observations, it is not worth sowing on the days of the new moon and full moon, as well as the day before and after them, as the plants will be sluggish and will not bring a large harvest.

It is also worth considering that cucumbers do not tolerate cold. Therefore, it is not advisable to plant them too early. The optimal time for sowing is from mid-April to mid-May. Harvest in this case is possible in mid to late summer. But in a warm room or insulated greenhouse, the first harvest can be collected in June or even in May, in particular, such early varieties as "Altai", "Competitor", "Muromsky" or "Orpheus".
The time of sowing depends on the region. In the south to sowing and planting seedlings come earlier, and in the north - later. Sow your own prepared seeds, as well as purchased, including hybrid varieties, which are more resistant to weather changes and diseases. On the package they are labeled with the letter F1.
Cucumber seeds are sown dry or first germinated in a warm place, wrapped in a damp cloth. As soon as they have sprouted, they can be sown. Before sowing, ungerminated seeds can be pre-hardened to increase the plant's resistance to cold weather. To do this, they should be put in the refrigerator for two days, wrapped in a damp cloth, and then immediately planted in the ground.
For germination of cucumber seedlings, it is better to use peat tablets or pots, placing the seeds at a depth of 1-2 cm. Keep them in a well-lit and warm place. When the first sprouts appear, the pots should be moved to a cooler place.
The seedlings will be ready for planting about four to five weeks after sowing. Staying in the pots longer can cause the sprouts to thin and weaken. You can determine the right time for transplanting by the second pair of leaves that appear on the seedlings.
Immediately before planting on the bed and in the greenhouse is recommended for several days to take the seedlings out into the fresh air for a few hours, so that the plants better adapted to external conditions.
