Used cars in Russia to become more expensive than new cars in 2024

In 2024, used passenger cars in Russia became more expensive than new ones. This was reported by the analytical agency "Autostat" on February 12.

Thus, the weighted average price of a passenger car with mileage in Russia for the year increased by 13%, while for new cars this indicator increased only by 6%. In the secondary car market, the weighted average price of a car reached 1.18 million rubles. This indicator is calculated taking into account the market volume by model and year of manufacture (excluding modifications).

It also found out that the weighted average price of a passenger car with mileage has been growing over the past five years, but its growth has slowed down in the last two years. For example, it increased by 10% in 2020, 33% in 2022, and 17% in 2023. Over the past five years, the weighted average price of such cars has increased by about 2.5 times (0.49 million rubles in 2019).

The day before it was reported that the average cost of a car with mileage in Russia at the end of January 2025 amounted to 2 million rubles, which is 12% lower than in the same month last year. As compared to December 2024, the average cost of a car with mileage not older than 15 years has not changed much. The two cheapest models were Chery Tiggo 4 Pro and Renault Logan second generation.

February 7, it became known that in Russia for the year cars of a number of Chinese brands in the secondary market became cheaper, the price decreased by 15-19%. The most noticeable decrease in the average cost of a car with mileage brand Changan: the change amounted to 19.2%. In second place is the Korean brand Genesis, whose cars lost 18% in price.
