State Duma asks Interior Ministry and Investigative Committee to take control of the case of paramedics killed in road accident

The head of the State Duma Committee on Health Protection, Sergey Leonov, has sent an appeal to the head of the Russian Interior Ministry, Vladimir Kolokoltsev, and the chairman of the Investigative Committee (IC) of the Russian Federation, Alexander Bastrykin, with a request to take personal control of the investigation into the case of the death of two paramedics in a traffic accident in Belgorod. This was reported by the deputy on February 12.

Leonov, referring to reports circulated by the media, said that the driver of the car that crashed into the "ambulance" was in a state of alcohol intoxication.

"At the same time, there is no official information about the driver's identity at the moment. I ask the head of the IC to establish the identity of the culprit. Whoever is there, he took the lives of young female paramedics and left children without their mother," he wrote in his Telegram-channel.

The MP also emphasized that for the healthcare system every employee is of great value, and their loss is a great grief. He expressed condolences to the loved ones and relatives of the victims.

"All those responsible must be punished to the fullest extent of the law," concluded Leonov.

On the night of February 7, a fatal traffic accident occurred in Belgorod. The driver of a BMW car, having driven through an intersection on a red light, crashed into an ambulance. As a result of the accident, two paramedics died, four more people were injured. A criminal case was opened under part 5 of article 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Violation of the rules of road traffic and operation of vehicles").

Governor of Belgorod region Vyacheslav Gladkov said that he personally knew the two dead medics. According to him, he saw them many times on calls during the shelling, when they were helping wounded children and adults. The head of the region called the incident a terrible tragedy and promised to punish those responsible.
