Foreign companies supply gas to Ukraine through a reserve pipeline via Slovakia. This was announced by Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fitzo on February 11.

"For several days now, gas to Ukraine has been supplied through a reserve pipeline. <...> Slovakia has nothing to do with it," he said in a video he published on the social network Facebook (owned by Meta Corporation, recognized as extremist and banned in Russia).

According to the prime minister, Ukraine may simply freeze without these supplies. At the same time, Fitzo noted that the Slovak authorities have every moral right to study possible measures to stop pumping hydrocarbons from Europe.

On January 30, the media reported that the volume of gas in Ukraine's underground storage facilities had fallen to a critical 10%, which is a historic low in the country. It was specified that according to the results of last year, the storages were filled at the level of 20%, and at the beginning of 2023 - at 22-23%.

Earlier, on January 28, the politician said that if the Ukrainian authorities did not resume the transit of Russian gas through their territory, Slovakia would block all aid from the European Union. He emphasized that "the threat of retaliatory measures is the only language that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky (term of office expired in May 2024) understands".

At the end of August 2024, the head of the Kiev regime said that Ukraine would not extend the gas transit agreement with Russia, which was valid until the end of 2024. Russian President Vladimir Putin, for his part, later pointed out that Moscow itself did not refuse to transit gas through Ukrainian territory, but could not force Kiev to change its decision. In the end, Gazprom announced the suspension of Russian gas supplies to the EU via Ukraine from January 1, 2025.
