Chernyshenko called Russia a leader in nuclear power engineering

Russia is a leader in the field of nuclear energy. This statement was made on February 11 by Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko at a joint meeting of the heads of Rosatom State Corporation, the National Research Center (NRC) Kurchatov Institute and the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the nuclear industry.
"In the field of nuclear power, Russia is indeed a technological leader. It is very difficult to be a leader, because the hardest thing is to keep this leadership," he said.
He recalled that the goal of achieving technological leadership was set by the head of state Vladimir Putin.
Chernyshenko emphasized that in order to retain leadership Russia should continue the development of fundamental and applied science in the nuclear industry, as well as train young promising specialists.
The Deputy Prime Minister expressed confidence that Rosatom, the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Kurchatov Institute will make every effort to maintain Russia's leadership in this area.
Chernyshenko named the National Center of Physics and Mathematics in Sarov as an example of successful cooperation between the state, science and business. He also recalled the launch of the national project "New Nuclear and Energy Technologies", which includes 10 federal projects, half of which are devoted to the nuclear direction.
Earlier in the day, Putin said it was necessary to make full use of Russia's unique potential in the nuclear industry to modernize the economy. He also noted that this would help ensure Russia's defense capability and energy security, as well as the training of modern qualified personnel.
Prior to that, on February 6, the head of state said that the creation of the nuclear project determined the effective development of the economy, energy, health care and defense industrial complex (DIC). Among the priority tasks he named participation in promising space and Arctic programs and other projects aimed at strengthening the technological and industrial sovereignty of the Russian Federation.
