Google has changed the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the American Gulf on its maps


Google has registered the change of the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America in the Maps application. The company wrote about it on social network X (formerly Twitter) on February 11.
"We follow a long-standing practice of applying name changes when they are updated in official government sources," the post reads.
According to the piece, Denali Mountain in Alaska will also be renamed on the maps. After the decree of US President Donald Trump, signed on the day of inauguration on January 20, the elevation will become Mount McKinley.
The U.S. Department of the Interior on Jan. 24 renamed the Gulf of Mexico as the American Gulf of Mexico in accordance with the executive order. The next day, Trump shared that Mexican authorities were "thrilled" with his decision to rename the Gulf of Mexico.
The country's President Claudia Sheinbaum said that the Gulf will only be called the American Gulf on the continental shelf of the United States, for the rest of the world it will still be the Gulf of Mexico.
