- The Ministry of Agriculture reported about the growth of dairy products production in Russia

According to the results of 2024, the production of milk, yogurt and ice cream has increased in Russia. This was reported to "Izvestia" on February 11 in the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation.
It is specified that the production of dairy products in Russia is developing dynamically. Last year, producers increased the output of almost all products in this area in order to "meet the growing demand and saturate the domestic market" of the country.
"In the 12 months of last year, about 6.1 million tons of drinking milk were produced, which is 5% more than in 2023. Other items also show growth: cheese was produced 841 thousand tons (+5.1%), cottage cheese - 474.5 thousand tons (+5%), ice cream - 600 thousand tons (+16.6%), cream - 362 thousand tons (+14.7%), yogurt - 791 thousand tons (+6.6%)," the Ministry of Agriculture said.
The ministry added that the increase in sour-milk products amounted to 3.2% with the volume of production of more than 2.7 million tons. It is noted that this statistic does not apply to cottage cheese and products from it.
In addition, the Ministry of Agriculture emphasized that the growth in the production of processed products contributes to the annual increase in raw material base, including through the implementation of major investment projects. Preliminarily, last year 34.07 million tons of raw milk was produced in all categories of farms. This figure increased by 0.8% compared to 2023.
It is emphasized that the dairy industry is one of the most supported in the agro-industrial complex (AIC). In 2024, support for the direction amounted to about 81 billion rubles, which is almost 20 billion rubles more than in 2023.
Artem Belov, General Director of the National Union of Milk Producers (Soyuzmoloko), said that although 2024 was a difficult year for the dairy sector, the sector continued to develop and maintained positive dynamics. According to him, over the past few years, demand for dairy products has been growing much faster than the volume of commercial milk production. At the same time, consumption is increasing due to the increase in disposable income of the population.
Belov added that at the moment the strategic task to maintain a sustainable balance of development of the dairy industry is to increase production of raw milk. He specified that the representatives of the direction are making all their efforts to this end.
Earlier, on February 6, Anastasia Vyalikova, the director of development of agro-industrial complex and food industry "Reksoft", told "Izvestia" that Russia's self-sufficiency in dairy products is a maximum of 76%, which includes cheese, butter and milk powder. The expert noted that last year the volume of milk sales amounted to 56.2 thousand tons, which exceeds the figures of 2023 by almost 2 thousand tons.
