The EU countries have turned into a digital colony of the United States. This statement was made by the head of the German party "Sarah Wagenknecht's Union - for Reason and Justice" Sarah Wagenknecht during a press conference in the Bundestag.

"Europe is currently a digital colony of the United States. That is, our digital infrastructure is completely dependent on large technology companies," the politician said.

According to Wagenknecht, under US President Donald Trump, the policy under US President Donald Trump is conducted in the interests of Americans and can "seriously damage" Europe and its economy.

The politician also touched on the arms race, which she said Germany is going to spend more and more money on.

"When NATO Secretary General [Mark] Rutte says in all seriousness that we should prepare for war, I get scared, because we should know that in the nuclear age we are not preparing for war, but we should do everything possible to prevent it," the German MP added.

Wagenknecht recalled that the candidate for Chancellor from the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) Friedrich Merz did not give up the statement that he continues to think about supplying Ukraine with Taurus cruise missiles.

Earlier, on February 7, the head of the European Commission (EC), Ursula von der Leyen, said that the EU intends to defend its interests in relations with Washington and will adhere to a firm retaliatory position in case of an unfair decision of the United States on duties on European goods. According to the head of the EC, the profit from trade between the US and the EU is €1.5 trillion and jobs both in the European Union and in America depend on it.

Prior to that, on February 5, the Financial Times (FT) newspaper noted that in the case of imposition of duties by the U.S. in the European Union may be split on the issue of retaliatory measures. The publication noted that the EU is preparing for a potential trade war with Trump.

The US president signed an executive order on February 1 to impose trade tariffs of 25% on goods from Canada, China and Mexico. At the same time, he promised to impose duties on goods from the EU.
