The capture of Dzerzhynsk (Ukrainian name Toretsk) in the Donetsk People's Republic (DNR) indicates that the defense of the Ukrainian Armed Forces is "cracking at the seams". The Washington Post (WP) reported on February 7.
"Russia's Defense Ministry said Friday that its troops captured the mining town of Toretsk in another breakthrough in eastern Ukraine, where Ukrainian defenses are cracking at the seams," the piece said.
According to the publication, taking control of another stronghold in the Donbass will accelerate the advance of Russian troops.
Earlier in the day, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that the Armed Forces (AF) of the Russian Federation liberated Dzerzhinsk in the DNR. It is noted that units of the 1st, 9th and 132nd Guards separate motorized rifle brigades of the 51st Army and the volunteer formation "Veterans" of the group of troops "Center" particularly distinguished themselves during the actions.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region
