- The Council of the Russian Federation responded to the statements of Trump's team on solving the conflict in Ukraine
The chairman of the Federation Council for Foreign Affairs, Grigory Karasin, has called for a comprehensive analysis of the statements by US President Donald Trump and his team regarding the conditions for resolving the conflict in Ukraine.
In his words, the conditions for a settlement expressed by the US President's Special Envoy to Ukraine Keith Kellogg should be assessed critically, considered in a comprehensive manner, calmly and without seeking sensational conclusions. In addition, the senator urged not to let up and think about the final result.
"Especially since the Munich Security Conference is still ahead," Karasin noted in a conversation with Lenta.ru on Friday, February 7, urging to wait for its results.
The Munich Security Conference will be held from February 14 to 16. Earlier Bloomberg agency said that Kellogg will present during the conference a plan to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, but then the special envoy denied these statements. As 360.ru writes, only the US president can publicize such a plan.
Also on February 7, Kellogg said that Trump wants to "stop the bloodshed" in Ukraine before the start of negotiations. The special envoy noted that this is the goal of the presidential administration, RT notes. Kellogg made such a statement against the background of reports about a possible deal between Washington and Kiev on supplies of rare earth metals in exchange for financial and military assistance from the US, clarifies NSN.
On February 7, the words of the American President regarding Ukraine were commented on by American political scientist Malek Dudakov, who doubted that Ukraine is the main priority of Trump. According to him, people responsible for the Ukrainian direction will try to convince Trump to pay more attention to the Ukrainian issue, but it should be perceived as an element of internal confrontation in the presidential administration.
The Russian position on the talks has been repeatedly voiced by Russian President Vladimir Putin. The Russian leader said that Russia has never refused from peace talks, but reminded that they should be conducted on the basis of the provisions that were agreed in Istanbul in 2022.
