The expert called the consequences of a warm winter for the car
In winter, drivers change their driving habits, preferring to slow down in advance and drive at a slower speed. In addition, the approach to operation also changes: before traveling, drivers look under the hood and under the car more often than in the summer, watching the dashboard indicators. However, the mild winter brings adjustments to the behavior of car owners. On February 7, Nikita Rodionov, technical director of the international franchise network of car services FIT SERVICE, told Izvestia about the consequences of warm temperatures for the car.
"Some drivers think about replacing winter tires with summer ones as soon as the snow comes down. While this has already happened in the European part of the country, it is important to remember that the seasonality of tires depends on temperature, not snow cover. Summer and winter tires have different composition of the rubber compound," the expert emphasized.
According to him, summer tires are not effective at sub-zero temperatures, so it is definitely not worth re-wiring in February. During the day the weather will not be warmer than -1...-2 degrees, and at night in the long-term weather forecast for the whole month will be a significant minus. Therefore, even in March it is unlikely that you should sign up for a tire fitting. It is necessary to wait for a stable +5...+7 degrees.
In addition, the early abolition of "winter driving" can lead to accidents. Drivers begin to feel more confident on the asphalt, more often choose a higher speed mode, reduce the distance in front of other cars.
"However, this is a deceptive feeling - although there is asphalt under the wheels, but the car is on winter tires and the road surface is not summer at all. During the transition period, there are more cars on the roads in general, drivers wake up - "snowdrivers" who can drive uncertainly, create some unexpected difficulties. Therefore, I recommend to keep a careful driving style as long as possible," Rodionov added.
A mild winter is most often a prolonged off-season, with a lot of different precipitation. All this is mixed with the residue of reagents and sand on the roads. as well as temperature fluctuations. Such a period is even more harmful to the car than a cold, stable winter.
"The bodywork and paintwork of the car will suffer. Any superficial damage can more quickly turn into significant problems. Therefore, it is necessary to stop by the car wash more often than in a normal winter. Suspension elements, underhood space - everything where road dirt with reagents can get into must be washed and controlled. At the same time, many car owners are used to seasonal maintenance of their cars. In the fall we prepare the car for winter, and in the spring - for summer. But since the off-season started early in some regions, and according to the calendar it is still winter, many postpone the work for several months", - the expert noted.
It is necessary to start diagnostics of the car, check of the main units and systems as soon as the temperature is plus. The expert also pointed out that it is worth to make sure that there are no cracks and damage to the main hoses and belts, check the level and condition of fluids.
Earlier on January 23, auto expert Nikita Rodionov listed the car units requiring heating in winter. In addition to the engine, in the cold season there is a need to warm up the gearbox - both manual and automatic, he said.
Also on January 23, auto expert Alexei Balashov said that many Russian drivers in winter make mistakes that can lead to serious damage to the car. Thus, a number of motorists on slippery roads begin to brake sharply, which can lead to skidding and loss of control over the car, said the expert.
