Russian army servicemen from Sakhalin managed to capture and evacuate from the battlefield a British Mastiff armored personnel carrier (APC) of the Cougar family, which had been hit by Russian soldiers earlier. This was reported by the Russian Defense Ministry on February 5.

"Before evacuating the armored vehicle from the line of contact, the fighters conducted a technical reconnaissance, after which, choosing a suitable moment when the enemy is less active, the tank battalion's evacuation team pulled the 'hit foreigner' to the rear area," the Defense Ministry reported.

This model of equipment became the most mass-produced APC in the Cougar lineup. A total of 450 examples were produced, and the first customer was Great Britain.

"Specifically this vehicle we dragged for about five hours. It [Mastiff] is heavy, it weighs more than 20 tons. <...> This vehicle was shot down by our comrades from the Vostok group of troops. In the future, the car will take its rightful place in the museum of trophy equipment," said the commander of the evacuation unit with the call sign Photographer.

The military reports that during the battle the armored personnel carrier was hit by several shaped-charge shells, which caused a fire inside the vehicle, severely damaging the compartment for the troopers, driver and commander.

On February 3, Russian servicemen used an FPV drone to destroy an AFU pickup truck in Kharkiv Region. The vehicle was intended for the transportation of enemy troops and was spotted from the air.

Also on that day, the Defense Ministry reported the destruction of a highway bridge and an AFU stronghold in the South Donetsk direction. The task was accomplished by artillerymen of the Vostok group using a self-propelled Tulpan mortar.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
